In this contribution to this symposium, Nick will draw on his studies of academic practices (including publishing), wider research in this area, and his own experience. He will present a provocative set of assertions that cut directly to the core issues that prevent many good scholars from successfully publishing their work. He will take this further by then considering how research findings can remain buried under a cloak of obscurity for evermore. Participants will leave armed with some key insights in how to avoid practices that act as barriers to effective publishing, as well as with some challenging thoughts to consider (and perhaps disagree with!).
