Darren C Henstridge
Dr Darren Henstridge is a Senior Research Officer in the Cellular and Molecular Metabolism Laboratory at the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute in Melbourne, Australia. Dr Henstridge completed his undergraduate studies (2000-2002) at Monash University and undertook his Honours and PhD studies at the Baker Heart Research Institute (2003-2007). His postgraduate studies were clinical in nature and investigated the role of a molecule in stimulating skeletal muscle glucose uptake and metabolism. His postdoctoral studies have predominately been conducted in pre-clinical mouse models of obesity and insulin resistance in the laboratory of Prof Mark Febbraio. His work has focused on the regulation of skeletal muscle, cardiac and whole-body metabolism by heat shock protein 72 (HSP72), the impact of exercise on peripheral tissue lipotoxicity, the effects of exercise on hepatic gene and protein expression, the occurrence of metabolic drift in mouse strains and the impact of fecal microbiota transfer on metabolic parameters in the recipient. Further to his work in the metabolic field, Dr Henstridge is also developing a project to investigate the role of HSP72 in a mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease. Dr Henstridge has an adjunct appointment through Monash University and contributes to the teaching of 3rd year Cardiovascular and Exercise Physiology subjects.
